Concerned About Players
I have tried searching for similar posts but I could not find any. Recently I have sent an email to ArenaNet asking this very question but I would like to hear what you all think about this.
I have been playing Guild Wars ever since Prophecies first came out. I have got the two expansions too as soon as they hit the shelves. After playing the third instalment I have a concern that is ever growing.
Is there enough players for the every growing series?
With every expansion comes a whole new world but I am worried that are there enough new players coming in to fill those worlds. Would it happen if the community was stretched and it becomes too hard to find players for parties? I don't enjoy it as much with henchmen and 'heroes' and always prefer the human part; after all it is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, right? I am merely worried if ArenaNet can keep it up.

Party Search — A brand new Party Search panel will be added to Guild Wars this December, which will allow players to more easily form groups.
Casual and hard-core gamers alike will benefit from this new system, as it will make it easier for players to form parties for some of the tougher quests and missions in the game, find the last cog needed for a fearsome group that can tear through the PvP arenas, or just connect with old friends online to go explore the diverse Guild Wars world.

NF missions are too easy and too fast for vets. They are well balanced, and challenging, but experienced players simply plow through them, since good builds really pay off. Hence, most vets have completed them and are done with NF.
If it's any indication, I have 4 protectors of Elona, and only 1 of each, Tyria and Cantha. Not because of difficulty as such, but simply because those missions don't flow as smoothly. For last two protectors I herowayed almost all of it, since I felt any attempt to PUG slows me down immensly. 5 masters missions in a under two hours is somewhat easy (Vabbi and the likes).

K, so u have party search, that's not going to do anything if only 6 people want to do a new mission. But ya, I have the same question too. Playing in prophecies was so much cooler because there was a lot of people in each districts, now there isn't many people.

Well we don't know how the party system is going to work. But if I may speculate.. what if it's a system where.. let's say you hit a key and bring up a window of "groups" looking to do different things. Even though you aren't in the zone itself, maybe you'll see there are X people in THK making a group, and X people in Consolate Docks making a group, etc. Kind of like the observe battle list.. showing the groups, and where they are.. allowing people to see, at a glance, where there are parties forming all over the world. Then they go "hey, I need that mission too" and go over and join the people LFG.. all without having to actually go there and look who's there.
I don't know it's going to work like that, obviously. Maybe that's just really wishful thinking. But hey, it would be cool.

By the amount of people I run everyday I would say, YES.
Out of 30 runs yesterday I ran maybe 15 people that were not new to the game. I req that everyone show gold before we leave. Very few people even knew how to use the trade.

That may not be related to play time, but many players in this game never need to trade anything, so never learn how to use it. It's unrelated imo.

Well my running skills are in jeopardy of losing value now. If this update really works, then I can't charge 20k per person to run THK mission and bonus. The only reason ppl pay that much is because they are sick of dealing with PUGs.
hmm nvm. come to think of it I will still have business.
The new update will make the same low quality groups just easier to form. People will get frustrated more quickly, and pay me sooner to run the Mission and bonus for them.
Party-Search FTW

I think it's so, so sad that completely new players look for runners before even attempting to accomplish it themself. I'm generally against running although I'll accept that someone who has completed the game 4 times already might not want to spend time on the newbie island again, but a new player who hasn't even seen the content he'll be skipping by getting run... I'd refuse to run him.
As for the question at hand, I don't think it'll be a problem. The newest chapter will always host the vast majority of the playerbase, and until we don't have enough players to fill one district, I think we'll be fine. Judging by the channel spam and how fast prices of items change, I'd say we have plenty of players to go around. With every new chapter, new players arrive and retired players return - this game should prosper for several years to come.

I totally agree. I've been playing a year now and just restarted an ele in Prophecies. Just for the fun of doing it all again. I have all 3 chapters and yes I paid runners for some things- but that's mostly to the grotto or citadel lol.
I see many players everywhere I go most of the time.
I don't see an end to GW anytime soon. It's the best one around - every bit of it.

I'm looking forward to the new system. Hopefully it will help people wanting to form a party to go from Point A to Point B.
Personally, I wish there was a way to do away with runners. I can't believe how many level 10 players show up in hard to reach places like Thirsty River. You know darn well they had people run them through. It kind of ruins the balance of the game.

How does it ruin the balance of the game? most of those lvl10's are usually experienced players that have been playing for a while and want to try taking a low lvl char through the later game. You don't have to group with them so I don't see the problem, there still plenty of higher lvl ppl for you to play with.
Stop being selfish gits and demanding that everyone plays your way. Alot of player enjoy the running aspect of the game, just ignore us if it upsets you so much.
First time players getting runs I do agree with, which is why since Factions lots of people have been asking for locked gates to be account based.
I started playing when prophecies was first released, and to be honest it took ages to find a group back then, If anything I find it easier to join groups now. I dont think lack of players is a problem, not yet anyway.

For each player that rages GW, another joins. As long as arenanet is making money, they don't care one way or another.
